Award ceremony and ETF market trends

The German XENIX ETF AWARDS 2024 were presented on the evening of November 30, 2023 on the premises of the Munich Stock Exchange. In particular, outstanding ETFs that currently have the best ETF rating from XENIX were honored.

Exchange trading and “Vorabpauschale” for accumulating ETFs

Dr. Robert Ertl, Börse gettex, explained in an interview with Börsen Radio and in his welcoming presentation that high-yielding money market and bond ETFs are currently in high demand alongside global equity ETFs on broad market indices such as MSCI World and FTSE All-World. In anonymous exchange trading on gettex, the top 100 ETFs recently accounted for around 70% of the total turnover volume. According to Dr. Ertl, almost 2,400 ETFs and ETPs were traded on gettex in October 2023, i.e. around 96% of all index products tradable on the stock exchange.

Tax expert Robert Welzel, WTS, emphasized in his keynote speech that private investors should analyze the performance of their accumulating ETFs for tax reasons. This is because after the interest rate turnaround, ETF investors with accumulating ETFs will be charged taxable advance lump sums in the first week of January 2024. Depending on the fund category, up to 1.785% capital gains tax must then be paid to the tax office on “Vorabpauschale” (the advance lump sums), according to Welzel.

Dividend factor and Bitcoin tracker
In the Dividend Talk, Tim Breitbach, Fidelity, explained how private investors can use passive ETFs to invest in US quality stocks, for example, which have stable business models and offer high dividend yields of currently 2.6% per year, while replicating the sector structure of the overall market.
In the crypto talk, Marco Infuso, Valour, explained from a Swiss perspective (where it is already common practice in some cantons to pay taxes in Bitcoin) how investors can invest in the leading cryptocurrency with exchange-traded Bitcoin tracker ETPs (without a wallet).
